Works both ways

Whether you have a car or need a ride, you can post. The board is open to both sides — drivers and riders find each other directly.

As a driver

Post your route

Heading out regularly? Post your commute — departure time, available seats, preferred days, and your cost-sharing terms. Riders going your way will find you.

As a rider

Post a ride request

Need a ride and can't find one? Post where you're going and when. Drivers passing through your route can reach out and offer a seat.

Either way

Coordinate directly

Browse, filter by preferences, message each other, and sort out the details directly. Carpool1 never gets in the way.

A free board for
neighbor carpools

Post your commute or find someone going your way. Drivers and riders connect directly — no booking fees, no cut taken. Just neighbors sharing the ride.

Free to use, always

No subscription, no booking fee, no surge pricing. Any cost sharing is agreed directly between driver and rider. Carpool1 never takes a cut.

Private by default

Conversations are direct between driver and rider. We don't read your messages or sell your data.

Neighbor to neighbor

This is how carpooling has always worked — people going the same way sharing the cost. We just built the board to find each other.

What you should
know before you ride

Carpool1 is a coordination tool, not a transportation service. Here's what that means for you.

No background checks

Carpool1 does not screen, verify, or background check any user. You are responsible for your own due diligence before sharing a ride with anyone.

Insurance is the driver's responsibility

Personal auto insurance may not cover passengers in a voluntary carpool. Drivers should confirm coverage with their insurer before carrying riders.

No payments through Carpool1

We do not process, facilitate, or take any cut of money between users. Any gas cost sharing is a private arrangement handled entirely outside the app.

Carpool1 is not liable

By using this platform you acknowledge that Carpool1 is a bulletin board, not a transportation company. We are not liable for any outcome of rides arranged here.

A better commute —
for you and everyone else

Carpooling isn’t new — but making it easier to find the right people can change things. Fewer cars, lower costs, and a more connected community.

Fewer cars, lower emissions

Every shared ride means one less car on the road. That reduces congestion, fuel consumption, and everyday emissions — especially on daily commutes.

Split the cost of driving

Gas, tolls, parking — it adds up fast. Sharing rides makes commuting significantly cheaper for both drivers and riders without adding complexity.

Less traffic, more time back

Fewer cars means smoother roads. In many areas, carpooling can also unlock HOV lanes — helping you spend less time sitting in traffic every day.

Stronger local connections

You’re not riding with strangers — you’re riding with neighbors going the same way. Over time, carpools turn into familiar, reliable routines.

How we keep this
worth using

Carpool1 works because people treat each other well. These aren't legal rules — they're the baseline that makes this community function.

Be on time

If you commit to a route, be there. Other people are counting on you. Give as much notice as possible if plans change.

Be honest in your listing

Post accurate pickup times, locations, and seat counts. Don't over-promise. Riders plan around what you write.

Communicate directly

Use the messaging feature to confirm logistics. Don't leave riders guessing. A quick message goes a long way.

Cost sharing, not fare charging

Drivers can ask riders to chip in for gas or set a contribution amount.

No harassment

Treat every person on this platform with basic respect. Messages that harass, threaten, or demean other users will result in removal.

No misrepresentation

Don't impersonate others, post fake routes, or misrepresent your identity or vehicle. This is a trust-based community.

Common questions

Yes. Creating an account, posting a route, requesting a spot, and messaging are all free. Carpool1 never charges riders or takes a percentage from drivers. The only money that changes hands is directly between the driver and rider, on their own terms.
Yes. Drivers can mention whether they'd like to split gas costs or just want good company — entirely up to them. Any cost-sharing arrangement is between the driver and rider directly, outside the app. Carpool1 never sees or handles money.
It depends on your policy. Most personal auto insurance covers voluntary carpools where no payment changes hands, but some policies exclude any passenger-carrying arrangement. You should confirm directly with your insurer before carrying riders. Carpool1 provides no insurance coverage of any kind.
Carpool1 does not run background checks or verify identities. Users build trust through ratings after completed trips and through direct conversation before a ride. We recommend messaging before committing, checking a user's trip count and rating, and using your own judgment. Treat this like any community arrangement — trust is built over time.
Carpool1 covers 25+ metro areas across the US including Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Washington DC, Dallas, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle, Denver, Houston, and more. The location list is constantly expanding. If your city isn't listed, you can still post and browse — just search by nearby major city.
Both. When posting a route you can select specific days of the week to make it recurring, or leave it as a one-time trip for a specific date. One-time trips are perfect for airport runs, event transportation, or weekend travel.
An intro message is automatically sent to the driver and a chat thread opens between you. The driver reviews your request and either approves or declines. Once approved you'll see the status update in My Routes. You can also post your own ride request — drivers browsing the board can message you directly if they're heading your way.
Currently Carpool1 is a web app that works on any device through your browser at app.carpool1.com. It's designed to feel native on mobile. Native iOS and Android apps are in development. In the meantime you can add it to your home screen from your browser for an app-like experience.
Yes — that's the whole point. If you need a ride, post where you're going and when. Drivers heading that way can see your request and reach out directly. It's the same board, just from the other side.
You can filter by offering (drivers with seats) or requesting (riders looking for someone going their way), and layer on sub-filters: recurring routes, seats available, quiet ride, pets OK, music OK, and child-friendly. All filters stack so you can get specific.
